Description

Witness this exceptional example of the classic Rolex GMT-Master “Pepsi,” reference 16700, featuring a 40mm case and a U-serial dating production to 1998. As one of the final iterations of the original GMT-Master line, the 16700 represents the purest expression of Rolex’s iconic dual-time travel watch, paired with the unmistakable red and blue “Pepsi” bezel configuration that has become legendary among collectors. This example is fitted to its original Rolex Oyster bracelet with 12 links, bearing a U5 clasp code corresponding to May 1998. The original gloss dial and matching handset remain in excellent condition, with Tritium lume plots that have retained their desirable pearl white coloration — a hallmark characteristic of late-1990s production. Most notably, the original anodized aluminum “Pepsi” bezel insert has developed a beautifully natural fade over time, giving the watch the unmistakable character only years of honest wear can create. The once vibrant red and blue tones have softened into a rich, sun-washed palette, displaying even aging throughout while still preserving strong contrast and legibility. This subtle fading adds tremendous warmth and vintage appeal to the watch, perfectly complementing the crisp case and clean dial configuration. This timepiece is in very nice condition, with the exception of superficial scratching throughout the case and bracelet. The watch has been previously polished in the past, though it still retains thick, well-defined lugs and strong overall case proportions. The green caseback sticker is also still intact. Accompanying the watch are its original officially certified chronometer hang tag, Rolex document wallet, and original warranty papers dated January 1998, completing a highly original and exceptionally well-preserved example of the classic GMT-Master “Pepsi.”
