Description
Representing the final evolution of the original GMT-Master lineage, the Rolex GMT-Master reference 16700 is celebrated for its clean, purpose-driven design and enduring appeal among collectors. Offered here is an exceptional black dial example featuring the classic 40mm stainless steel Oyster case and a U-serial number dating production to approximately late 1997. The case displays honest signs of wear, including light superficial surface scratches, while retaining strong overall proportions and its original case back sticker. It is fitted to its original Rolex Oyster bracelet, reference 78790, complete with all 13 links. The bracelet and clasp are correctly stamped 78790, while the clasp bears a U6 date code, corresponding to June 1998. Completing the bracelet are the correct 501B hollow end links, found on the final production examples of the reference. Powering the watch is Rolex's automatic Caliber 3175, protected beneath a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal with the signature Cyclops date magnifier. The black bi-directional 24-hour aluminum bezel insert remains in excellent condition, retaining deep, even color and a crisp appearance. The glossy black "Swiss" only dial is adorned with original Luminova hour markers and matching hands, all of which are exceptionally well preserved. The luminous material remains bright and responsive when charged with light, while the dial itself is free from notable imperfections, completing a highly attractive example of one of Rolex's most sought-after travel watches. Accompanying the watch is an outstanding collection of original accessories, including its Rolex outer box, presentation box, GMT-Master instruction manual, leather document wallet, Officially Certified Chronometer hang tag, serialized hang tag, and the original Rolex warranty papers dated December 1998, making this a particularly complete example for the discerning collector.
