Description
Guarded Crown is honored to present the highly sought-after Rolex Sea-Dweller “Great White”, reference 1665. Introduced in the late 1970s, the Great White earned its nickname from the all-white Sea-Dweller text that replaced the earlier red lettering found on previous 1665 examples. The removal of the Submariner designation and transition to a fully monochromatic dial marked a defining moment in the evolution of the Sea-Dweller line and established the aesthetic direction Rolex would continue for decades. The reference 1665 holds a significant place in Rolex history as the brand’s first watch equipped with a helium escape valve, a technical innovation developed specifically for professional saturation divers. This example features a 40mm stainless steel Oyster case with a Triplock crown, its original matte black Tritium Mark IV dial—the final original 1665 dial variation—a domed acrylic crystal, and a black bezel insert. The watch displays hours, minutes, running seconds, and a date aperture at 3 o’clock, paired with a bidirectional rotating dive bezel. The case serial number falls within the 6.75 million range, dating production to approximately 1981. It is fitted with a later stainless steel 93150 Oyster bracelet featuring correct 585 end links and a “DT10” clasp date code, corresponding to approximately October 2002. The case remains exceptionally thick, and the bracelet retains excellent tension with minimal stretch. Overall, this Sea-Dweller remains in very strong condition, showing only minor superficial scratching throughout the case and bracelet consistent with careful wear. The original tritium lume on the dial and hands has aged to a light off-white tone, adding to the vintage character of this iconic reference. The original bezel insert remains in very good condition and has developed a remarkable denim navy blue fade, giving the watch a unique and highly desirable appearance. The bezel insert retains its original construction, with the lume pip having been replaced by Rolex during a later service. Accompanying the watch is a complete Rolex Certified Pre-Owned presentation, including a white outer Rolex CPO box, Rolex CPO travel pouch, Rolex CPO card wallet, Rolex CPO hangtag, and Rolex Certified Pre-Owned Guarantee Card dated April 2026. The watch carries the balance of the Rolex Certified Pre-Owned two-year international warranty.
