Description
The King Midas was the most expensive Rolex by far at retail in the 1960s and 1970s. Starting in the 1970s, Rolex changed the dial to "Cellini" instead of "Midas" in Greek on the dial. The Cellini and King Midas models are incredibly well made integrated bracelet models from Rolex that have been associated with Elvis Presley, Rihanna and others. It is said that Gérald Genta possibly designed these watches and they certainly seemed to be part of the evolution of integrated watch design that led to the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, IWC Ingenieur 1832, and Patek Philippe Nautilus. This Rolex Cellini King Midas reference 4315 is a special timepiece in 18k yellow gold. The case is unpolished. It measures approximately 24mm in diameter. The dial on this watch is remarkable and features an ornate pyramid pattern. The bracelet is also quite amazing with a mesh/woven design that would be a fortune to replicate today. It features a 4.2M serial dating to circa 1976. The bracelet is quite long and will fit a wrist over 7.5 inches. It has likely never been cut. For those looking for a stylish and unique Rolex, this is an incredible choice. The watch does not come with box and papers. We do not know the service history, but it is running well.
