Description
Few vintage Rolex references carry the historical importance of the Submariner Ref. 5512. Introduced as one of the earliest Submariners with crown guards, the 5512 marked a defining evolution in the model’s design and remains one of the most coveted references among vintage Rolex collectors. This example dates to circa 1971, distinguished by its 2.79 million serial number. Its previously polished 40mm stainless steel case remains in nice vintage condition, showing superficial scratches and handling marks throughout the case and bracelet. Beneath the domed plexiglass crystal, the matte black dial has developed a warm, buttery tritium patina, complemented by a black bezel insert that has naturally faded to an attractive soft gray. The watch is fitted with its original Rolex 9315 fold-link Oyster bracelet, complete with 380 end links, 11 links, a dive extension, and a “C” date-stamped clasp dating to approximately 1978. With its historically significant configuration, honest vintage condition, and unmistakable 5512 character, this Submariner is a compelling example of one of Rolex’s most important early dive watch references. This timepiece was professionally serviced in September 2026, and is keeping excellent time and has passed a pressure test.
