Description

A true time capsule. This early-1970s Rolex GMT-Master 1675 features a 3.42 million serial number, dating its case production to approximately 1973. The case remains unpolished, notably thick and well maintained, with pronounced chamfers characteristic of GMT-Masters from this era. The watch is fitted with its original, period-correct red-back “Pepsi” bezel insert, retaining its vibrant red and blue colors with minimal wear. Of particular interest to collectors, Marlon Brando’s GMT was also a Mark IV example with a 3.24 million serial number. Other Mark IV examples with 3 million-series case serials have been documented, although most known Mk IV examples fall within the 4.1 to 5.8 million serial range. The matte black Mk IV dial features Tritium-lumed hour markers and handset, which have aged to a warm, creamy patina. The luminescent material on some of the indices exhibits gentle tonal variation, adding to the watch’s vintage character. Completing the package is an original Rolex 7836 folded-link Oyster bracelet with 380 end links and 11 links. Overall, the watch remains in very good condition, showing minor superficial scratching throughout the case and bracelet consistent with careful ownership, honest wear, and its age. The case retains excellent proportions and strong chamfers—particularly desirable characteristics on vintage GMT-Masters. Powering the watch is the legendary Rolex Caliber 1575, a robust and highly regarded movement that winds smoothly and is keeping good time. With its desirable Mk IV dial, period-correct red-back Pepsi insert, folded-link 7836 Oyster bracelet, and unpolished case, this 1675 represents a particularly compelling configuration for the vintage Rolex collector.
