About the Movement

9S85 movement

Self-winding 'high-beat' movement with date. Caliber 9S85 features a t made of SEIKO’s proprietary alloy “SPRON530”. In addition, the balance spring is made of another recently developed highly shock resistant and anti-magnetic alloy “SPRON610” and the caliber uses a new escape wheel and pallet manufactured by MEMS. These new components contribute to its reliable and precise performance; its timekeeping precision is -3 to +5 seconds per day, a level that is confirmed in every case by testing to the very exacting Grand Seiko standard, the highest published standard in the industry.

About the Family

Grand Seiko's Mechanical collection houses the brand's traditional hand-wound and automatic movements, continuing a pursuit of precision that began in 1960 when the first Grand Seiko was created to rival the best Swiss chronometers. The Hi-Beat movements operating at 36,000 vibrations per hour deliver a level of accuracy and smoothness that few manufacturers attempt, while the Zaratsu polishing technique — a method of achieving distortion-free mirror surfaces learned from sword-polishing traditions — gives every case and bracelet a quality of finish that is immediately apparent in person. The Mechanical family represents Grand Seiko's argument that Japanese watchmaking can match and exceed the standards set by the Swiss industry.

About this reference

The Grand Seiko Automatic Hi-Beat 36000 Professional 600 m Diver's SBGH257 is the limited edition sibling of the SBGH255. It was introduced in 2017, when Grand Seiko became a brand of its own rather than a collection within the larger Seiko family. It features a Zaratsu-polished titanium case with a diameter of 46.9mm and a blue dial.
