About the Movement
This model is equipped with calibre 3135, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Like all Rolex Perpetual movements, the 3135 is a certified Swiss chronometer, a designation reserved for high-precision watches that have successfully passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests. It is fitted with a Parachrom hairspring, offering greater resistance to shocks and to temperature variations. Its architecture, in common with all Oyster watch movements, makes it singularly reliable.
About the Family
The Yacht-Master arrived in 1992 as Rolex's luxury sports watch for the sailing community — a segment the brand had supported through its sponsorship of major regattas. Sharing the Submariner's Oyster case architecture but distinguished by a bidirectional rotating bezel with raised numerals and a more precious material palette (Rolesor, platinum, Everose gold), the Yacht-Master signals leisure rather than utility. The Yacht-Master II, introduced in 2007 with a programmable countdown timer calibrated for regatta starts, added genuine sporting function to the collection. The family occupies a distinct position in the Rolex catalogue: the Submariner's proportions reinterpreted for the deck of a yacht rather than beneath the waves.
About this reference
Introduced at BaselWorld 2015, the new Yacht-Master reference 116655 has a Everose case in 40mm. As a Rolex first, it is fitted with an integrated rubber strap. The bezel still features the signature raised numerals, yet it is now executed in matte 'Cerachrom' .
