About the Movement
This model is equipped with calibre 3135, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex. Like all Rolex Perpetual movements, the 3135 is a certified Swiss chronometer, a designation reserved for high-precision watches that have successfully passed the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC) tests. It is fitted with a Parachrom hairspring, offering greater resistance to shocks and to temperature variations. Its architecture, in common with all Oyster watch movements, makes it singularly reliable.
About the Family
The Submariner, introduced in 1953, is the watch that defined the dive watch category and arguably the most influential wristwatch design of the twentieth century. Its 300-metre water resistance, unidirectional rotating bezel, and luminous dial established the template that every subsequent dive watch has followed — from the cheapest homage to the most expensive complication. The Submariner's influence extends far beyond diving: it became the default watch of military special forces, film protagonists, world leaders, and eventually the broader luxury market. Its proportions — 40mm to 41mm, with a case profile that sits flat on the wrist — have never needed fundamental revision because they were correct from the beginning.
About this reference
The Submariner 16610 LV was introduced in 2003 to mark the 50th anniversary of the Submariner. It features a distinct green bezel. During its life span various small changes in the dial and bezel were made, leading to collectors referring to the different models with a 'Mark 1' etc designation. Pictured is the Mark 5, distinguished from other versions by the distinct shape and placement of the ´Swiss Made´ designation (5 minute markers cut), round ´O´, ´R´ in oyster under the right feet of ´Rolex´ and ´pointed 4´ bezel.
