Description
This Heuer Carrera reference 3647N is an incredibly special example with the name Tobey Steinman printed at 6 o'clock. Tobey Steinman was a lady who was the chief buyer for Abercrombie & Fitch and lived in Ohio, where the company was headquartered. It is not clear what Ms. Steinman's relationship with Heuer was, although perhaps she had been involved in the relationship between the manufacturer and Abercrombie & Fitch. leading to this incredibly rare personalized dial. The dial is a similar style as the iconic Heuer Carrera reference 3647 owned by James Garner which sold for $176,400 in 2022. This is one of only two black dial Heuer Carrera to have a name on it exclusively. We also sold the Sherman Decker Heuer Carrera reference 3647S , which was only the third example we have seen with a name on a Carrera. It features the the same font as the MG Carreras, but those were for MG customers and had the MG logo printed on the dial. The crystal had been removed from the watch for decades, leading to wear on the dial. This example dates to circa 1965-1966. We believe the case is unpolished with wear. It is powered by the Valjoux calibre 92. It is paired on a Gay Freres Bracelet for Heuer with HEL end links dating to 1965. This is a very special Heuer Carrera and a rare opportunity to purchase a special piece of Heuer history. The watch does not come with box and papers. It was recently serviced and is running great.
