Description
A remarkable example of vintage Rolex character, this Rolex Submariner Date reference 1680 captures the natural aging and individuality that make early Submariners so highly collectible. Offered here is a stainless steel example featuring a Mark II feet first matte black tritium dial that has developed a deep tobacco patina over time, complemented by its original tritium hands displaying oxidation and vintage hue. The classic 40mm case bears a 6.1 million serial number dating production to 1979 and retains strong proportions with thick lugs. Completing the watch is its original Mark V "hooked 5" bezel insert in honest vintage condition, showing surface scratches. The insert has naturally aged to a soft ghost navy color, fitted with a newer service lume pip. A new and correct Rolex "top hat" acrylic crystal complements the dial, preserving the unmistakable warmth unique to vintage Submariners. The watch is fitted with its original Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet with 580 end links and a VD clasp code dating to 1979. It includes 10 links plus the dive extension and displays only minimal stretch. The case remains in honest vintage condition, showing light scratches and minor dings throughout consistent with its age and previous wear, while the bracelet displays light surface scratches from normal use. This watch was freshly serviced and is keeping excellent time, with fantastic amplitude. It is ready for your wrist.
