Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Sapphire Sandwich / Strap

The Speedmaster was introduced in 1957 as a racing chronograph and became the most famous watch in history when it was selected by NASA for the Apollo programme after surviving a brutal battery of tests that no other chronograph could pass. Buzz Aldrin wore a Speedmaster on the surface of the moon during Apollo 11 in July 1969 — a fact that has defined the watch's identity ever since. The Moonwatch designation specifically refers to the hand-wound, hesalite-crystal configuration that most closely follows the specification of the watches that flew to the moon. The current production Moonwatch maintains the essential character — same case shape, same tachymeter bezel, same three-register dial — while incorporating a modern co-axial movement.

The Omega Speedmaster Professional reference 3873.50.31 is often called the 'Sapphire Sandwich' due to its sapphire glasses both front and back. It was in production from 2002 to 2015. Reference 3573.50.00 is similar though fitted with a stainless steel bracelet.
